What is EFT?

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an emotional healing technique which is based on the understanding that all negative emotions result from an imbalance in the flow of energy in the body. By using a painless tapping technique on certain points of the body (like acupuncture but without needles) we can remove the emotional charge from our past experiences. Once the emotional charge is gone the balance returns to us as human beings and we can move on and be positive in what we do.

Where did it come from?

EFT evolved from Thought Field Therapy, which was developed by Roger Callahan a clinical psychologist. He discovered that by stimulating certain acupressure points in clients' phsychological problems could be successfully overcome.

EFT founder, Gary Craig, studied with Roger Callaghan and developed the process he called EFT that gave amazing success rate in dealing with phsychological as well as physical problems.

“The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.”

To aim Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) at any emotional or physical problem you need to create an appropriate Set-up Affirmation and Reminder Phrase. Be as specific as possible and aim EFT at the emotional event/s in one’s life that may underlie the issue or concern. If you still have the emotional feeling keep persisting with EFT until you feel comfortable with your feelings.

The 5 Step Process

1. Rate your emotional concern or level of anxiety on a scale of one to ten, with one being virtually no concern or anxiety and ten being extremely high. Do this by thinking about how you feel now about the event, issue or concern.

2. The Set-up Affirmation
... Repeat 3 times:
“Even though I have this _________
I deeply and completely accept myself”

while continuously rubbing the Sore Spot or tapping the Karate Chop point.

3. The Sequence
... Tap about 7 times on each of the following energy points while repeating the Reminder Phrase (short version of the affirmation) at each point.
EB, SoE, UE, UN, Ch, CB, UA, BN, Th, IF, MF, RF, LF, KC

4. The 9 Gamut Procedure... Continuously tap on the Gamut point while performing each of the following 9 actions:

1. Eyes closed
2. Eyes open
3. Eyes hard down right
4. Eyes hard down left
5. Roll eyes in circle
6. Roll eyes in other direction
7. Hum 3 or 4 seconds of a song
8. Count to 5 our loud
9. Hum 3 or 4 seconds again

5. The Sequence (again)…Tap about 7 times on each of the following energy points while repeating the Reminder Phrase at each point.

EB, SoE, UE, UN, Ch, CB, UA, BN, Th, IF, MF, RF, LF, KC

Note: In subsequent rounds The Set-up affirmation and the Reminder Phrase are adjusted to reflect the fact that you are addressing the remaining’ problem.
